To kill the entire contents of the trap\u00a0simply leave in the freezer for 2 hours.<\/p>\n<p>In the unlikely event there is a bycatch then the trap should\u00a0be placed in the freezer until all the insects stop moving, no more than 3\u00a0minutes maximum, when the insects will be rendered torpid and immobile.\u00a0 The trap may then be opened and emptied onto\u00a0a suitable surface and the Asian hornets tipped into a typical container for\u00a0return to the freezer.\u00a0 Any bycatch may\u00a0be placed in an appropriate place to warm up and go on their way!<\/p>\n<p>The trap may be re-assembled and rebaited \u2013 it is worth\u00a0keeping a couple of Asian hornets back to place in the trap to recover as they\u00a0will act as an effective bait in their own right.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Note<\/strong> \u2013 if there is no bycatch in the trap then it can be\u00a0left in the freezer for a couple of hours \u2013 or overnight if brought back in the evening and then emptied and\u00a0placed back in location.<\/p>\n<p><em><br \/>\nThe trap may be carefully carried by the clip (preferably after\u00a0dusk) and for security\u00a0(particularly if moving it a distance) placed in a suitable carrier bag.\u00a0Asian hornets do not fly at night and therefore the trap will not attract more\u00a0once darkness falls.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>GUIDE ON EMPTYING YOUR TRAPS &nbsp; The Gard\u2019Apis trap has been carefully designed to eliminate\u00a0the problem of bycatch, i.e. the only species caught are the Asian Hornet.\u00a0 Extensive tests have shown the bycatch rate\u00a0to be as little as 0.1%.
